I kind of dig the weekender's chill, relaxed vibe as well (really aptly named shoe! "Weekender").Īs an additional point of, the postmans' leather came with several dark patches ( more visible in daylight). I came into the comparison a little bit biased in my preference for bluchers over derbies so I thought I'd like the postmans more. Not really that important but, I like the bottom of the weekenders' soles (kind of a crinkly, fake crepe style sole) and the bottom of the postmans' soles are kinda fugly. Both are comfortable out of the box but the weekenders' removable insoles seem like they would require less break in than postmans' hard leather footbeds.I thought for sure that the postmans would be more bulbous but, looking at them next to each other, it's really hard to tell a difference.Though I wouldn't call the postmans sleek, they definitely come more to a point. Toe shape is rounder on the weekender.Eyelets on the postmans are reinforced, weekender ones seem kind of flimsy.Postmans are goodyear welted, weekenders are stitchdown construction (would this make the postmans easier to resole?).Each weekender shoe is 2.5 oz lighter than each postman.Leather seems slightly thicker on the postmans.Overall the postman just seems like a more substantial, robust shoe (also $40 more expensive).Pretty similar shoes and it's hard for me to pick which pair to keep. So I decided to just order both pairs and compare them myself: Tried to find side by side comparisons of the 2 online but didn't really find anything. However there were conflicting reports of a new model of postman that was slightly tweaked, slightly sleeker (for reference, here's the old model) and I was frankly at a loss as to which shoe I wanted. But that's last time I'll use that word to describe 2 styles of shoes that are clearly not oxfords :) in Hawthorne Muleskinner leather.Īs I had understood it, the postman would be the bulkier, chunkier of the 2 shoes. ![]() I've had my eye on both the Red Wing Weekender and the Red Wing Postman "oxfords" (Red Wing's words not mine. Something durable, that I won't have to baby but still somewhat stylish. So I've been wanting an everyday shoe that I can wear to my super casual office and around town.
